Wash Day

Aim to wash your extensions no more than 1–2 times a week, or as needed for your lifestyle. Keeping your scalp clean is important, so don’t be afraid to give your hair a good wash! If your natural hair needs a wash and your extensions don't, just braid them out of the way and give your scalp a good scrub.

JM Tip: We do not recommend using purple shampoo on your wefts, save the toning for your stylist.

Shampoo: Focus your shampoo at the scalp and around your extensions. For wefts, you're going to shampoo horizontally above and below the wefts and sandwich the wefts between your fingers to lightly cleanse them too. For K-Tips, try and wash directionally in line with your K-Tip rows, don't try to go through the bonds. Gently work it through with your fingertips rather than aggressively scrubbing or piling your hair on top of your head. Let the suds cleanse through the lengths as you rinse.

Condition: Apply a moisturizing conditioner generously through your mids and ends, keeping it away from your weft foundation or K-Tip bonds. Your extensions don’t receive the natural oils from your scalp like your own hair does, so giving them plenty of moisture is key to keeping them soft and beautiful.

Rinse well: Make sure all shampoo and conditioner are completely rinsed from your hair. Leftover product can cause buildup and leave your extensions feeling heavy or dry.

Dry completely: Gently squeeze out excess water instead of rubbing your hair with a towel. Most importantly, make sure your roots at the top of the weft are completely dry. Even if that means you're just blasting your root dry and air drying the rest, your scalp doesn't need to sit with wet extensions hair. Wet hair adds weight that your scalp doesn't need to hold for a long time. Never go to bed with wet extensions. 💗 If you're air drying during the day, you can give it a quick diffuse to help remove water quicker.

Keep Her Hydrated

Extension hair needs a little extra love when it comes to moisture. Unlike your natural hair, your extensions aren’t receiving the oils produced by your scalp, so keeping them hydrated at home is a must for maintaining that soft, healthy feel.

Condition every wash. Use a moisturizing conditioner through your mids and ends each time you shampoo. Remember that NO conditioner should touch the beads or bonds, because it can cause slippage.

Give her a little extra love. Add a hydrating mask or deep conditioner to your routine when your extensions start feeling dry, rough, or harder to detangle.

Don’t forget your leave-in. A lightweight moisturizing leave-in can help keep your extensions soft and manageable between washes. Apply it through your mids and ends as needed.

And then comes the oil. Hair oil is amazing for adding softness, shine, and helping your ends feel smooth, but it shouldn’t be your only answer to dry extensions. Think moisture first, then use a small amount of oil as your finishing touch.

A little goes a long way! Too much oil or product can create buildup and leave your extensions feeling heavy or coated.

K-Tip girls: Keep conditioners, masks, leave-ins, and oils away from your bonds. Focus all that goodness on your mids and ends. 💗

Brushing Your Extensions

A little daily brushing goes a long way! Brush your extensions morning and night, plus anytime they need a little extra detangling throughout the day.

Start from the bottom. Begin at your ends and gently work your way upward instead of pulling a brush straight through from the top.

Support your extensions. Hold your hair near the top of the weft with one hand while brushing with the other. This helps avoid unnecessary pulling on your natural hair and extensions.

Get all the way in there. With wefts, gently separate your rows and make sure you’re brushing between them. For K-Tips, carefully brush between and around your bonds to keep the natural hair separated and prevent tangling as it grows. You can brush over the bonds ONLY with a brush that has no balls on the end of it. The Tangle Teaser Brush is my favorite!

Don’t forget the nape. This area gets lots of friction from clothing, sleeping, and everyday life, so give it a little extra attention.

And girl, if you hit a tangle… don’t fight her. Slow down, support the hair, and gently work through it from the ends up.

Consistent, gentle brushing is one of the easiest ways to keep your extensions looking beautiful and prevent little tangles from turning into big ones. 💗

Your Bedtime Routine

Your extensions need their beauty sleep too. 💗 A few simple habits before bed can help prevent tangling, unnecessary tension, and extra wear on your hair.

Never go to bed with wet extensions. Make sure your hair AND your extension hair are completely dry before your head hits the pillow. This is one of our non-negotiables!

Brush before bed. Give your extensions a gentle brush from the ends up and make sure there aren’t any tangles hiding between your rows or bonds.

Braid her up. Sleep with your hair in one or two loose braids to keep everything contained and help prevent tangling while you toss and turn.

Make the switch to silk or satin. A silk or satin pillowcase and scrunchie can help reduce friction while you sleep. Plus, they’re cute, so win-win. 💗

Your nighttime routine doesn’t have to be complicated. Dry, brush, braid, bed. That’s it, girl!

Heat Styling

Yes girl, you can curl it, straighten it, blow it out and actually enjoy your extensions. We just want to protect that beautiful hair while you do it. 💗

Heat protectant. Every. Single. Time. Apply heat protection before blow drying or using hot tools. This is one step we don’t skip!

Turn down the heat. You don’t need your tools cranked all the way up to get a beautiful style. Use the lowest temperature that works well for your hair and try to avoid repeatedly going over the same section.

Make sure your hair is dry. Never use a flat iron or curling iron on damp extension hair.

Be mindful of your beads and bonds. Keep direct heat from your hot tools away from K-Tip bonds and your weft foundation.

Give her a break sometimes. One of the perks of extensions is that they can hold a style beautifully! Stretch that blowout or those curls for a few days when you can instead of starting over with heat every morning.

Your extensions are made to be worn, styled, and loved. Protect the hair now so you can keep loving it later. 💗

Pool + Beach Days

Good news: extensions don’t mean sitting out the pool days and beach trips. You just need to give your hair a little extra love before and after.

Prep before you swim. Lightly wet your extensions with clean water first, then apply a leave-in conditioner through your mids and ends. This helps keep your hair from soaking up as much pool or salt water.

Braid her up. Keep your extensions in one or two secure braids while swimming when possible. Avoid messy buns or letting wet extensions tangle together all day.

Rinse ASAP. Once you’re done swimming, rinse your hair thoroughly with clean water. Shampoo when needed, follow with plenty of moisture, gently detangle, and make sure the root of your extensions are completely dry.

Blonde girls, pay extra attention. Minerals in water and certain sunscreens can discolor light extension hair. Choose a mineral sunscreen when possible and avoid getting sunscreen directly on your extensions.

And please don’t leave wet, tangled pool hair in a bun for the rest of the day. Rinse her, brush her, and give her some love. 💗

Extension Maintenance

Your extensions may not be growing, but your natural hair is! As your hair grows, your extensions move farther away from the scalp and eventually need a little professional attention.

Weft girls: Plan to see your stylist for maintenance around every 6–8 weeks. Your exact schedule may vary depending on your natural hair, density, growth rate, and installation.

K-Tip girls: Your K-Tips are designed to grow out with you! Your stylist will give you a removal and reinstallation timeline based on your natural hair and your specific install. You can expect anywhere from 8 weeks to 16 weeks for removals and reinstalls.

Don’t push your maintenance too far. Wearing your extensions longer than recommended can create unnecessary tension, tangling, and stress on your natural hair.

And please leave removal to the professionals. 💗 Picking at bonds, cutting threads, or trying to remove extensions yourself can turn into damaged natural hair very quickly.

Your maintenance appointments aren’t just about moving your extensions back up. They’re also a chance for your stylist to check your natural hair, your placement, and how everything is wearing.

Great extension care means loving the hair underneath them, too.
